Bei Ji Qian Jin Yao Fang:the Invaluable Prescriptions for Emergencies The well-known book Bei Ji Qian Jin Yao Fang, or The Invaluable Prescriptions for Emergencies, was edited by the herbalist Sun Simiao and finally finished around the year 652 A.D. The author wrote, "I feel the pain of those with short lives, early deaths, and falling in difficult situations. I pity the stupid and muddlehead of those degraded in knowledge." Thus, he "collected widely from well-known works, compiled them, and deleted the multifarious, and made the work easy and simple." He believed that "human life is most important, expensive than a thousand pieces of gold, and a recipe to help, morality over than it." Thus, the book was named Qian Jin (a thousand pieces of gold). It contains rich literature from the Han dynasty, Wei dynasty, Jin dynasty, and the Six Dynasties, as well as the Sui and Tang dynasties.
