Consumption:introduction of its pathological reasons,common syndromes and various syndromes.
✵Consumption syndrome:consumption syndrome is deficiency and impairment of Yin, Yang, Qi or blood in Zang-fu viscera, usually due to non-infectious factors. It is also known as xū sǔn, or consumptive syndrome.
Some main types of consumptive syndromes are introduced, including syndrome deficiency of Qi, syndrome deficiency of blood, deficiency of yang, deficiency of Yin, exhaustion of or lesion in the five Zang-viscera (heart, liver, spleen, lung, and kidneys), six exhaustions, seven kinds of impairments, the syndrome jiān jué, the syndrome xiè yì, the èr yáng syndrome.
Consumption syndrome.
Consumption: consumption syndrome is deficiency and impairment of Yin, Yang, Qi or blood in Zang-fu viscera, usually due to non-infectious factors. It is also known as xū sǔn, or consumptive syndrome.
Internal reasons: the deficiency and hurt of foot three Yin, hurt of essence and blood at an early age, or deficiency and hurt of heart from laboring with the mind, all develops to consumption syndrome.
External symptoms: poor appetite and tiredness, hectic fever (afternoon fever) and spontaneous sweating, general fever with cough, pain in the waist and hypochondrium, spermatorrhea and night sweating of men, uterine bleeding and amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) of women.
There are consumptive hurts from the upper to the lower, and there are consumptive hurts from the lower to the upper. Ancient classical works Nan Jing (the Difficult Classic) recorded, first, it hurts the lungs; second, it hurts the heart; third, it hurts the stomach; These are consumptive hurt from the upper to the lower. Fourth, it hurts the bones; fifth, it hurts the liver; sixth, it hurts the spleen. These are consumptive hurt from the lower to the upper.
These syndromes of consumption are introduced:
Deficiency of Qi, deficiency of blood.
The syndrome deficiency of Qi and deficiency of blood, these two deficiency syndromes are introduced:
The syndrome deficiency of Qi, is a deficiency syndrome in the spleen and lung, or from diet and drink, or from overstrain, decline of Qi and excess of fire, heat in arms and legs, laziness to move, laziness to speak, gasp and tiredness from moving, spontaneous perspiration and perturbed;
The syndrome deficiency of blood, is a deficiency syndrome in the heart and liver, hematemesis (vomiting blood) and passing blood from stool, postpartum syndromes of women, uterine bleeding, blood flows randomly, giddiness and dizziness, gradually develops to unstoppable hematemesis (incessant vomiting of blood), or emaciation due to a blood disorder.
Deficiency of Yang, deficiency of Yin.
The syndrome deficiency of Yang and deficiency of Yin, these two deficiency syndromes are introduced:
Syndrome from the deficiency of Yang: the deficiency of Yang belongs to the kidney, and is the deficiency of Yang in the kidney, syndromes from the deficiency of Yang are pain in the throat and dryness of the mouth, tongue boil, sticky and slabby tears and saliva, feverish palms and soles (feverish sensation over the palm and sole), dry feces, and red urine.
Syndrome from the deficiency of Yin: the deficiency of Yin belongs to the kidney, and is the deficiency of Yin in the kidney, syndromes from the deficiency of Yin are consumptive disease (consumption), spit white phlegm, retch and no appetite (do not want to take food), sick of food, indigestion, turbidness, and loose stool.
Exhaustion of or lesion in the five Zang-viscera.
The syndrome exhaustion of or lesion in the five Zang-viscera, these exhaustion syndromes are introduced:
Exhaustion of or lesion in the five Zang-viscera (heart, liver, spleen, lung, and kidneys): in ancient classical works Jin Kui Yao Lue Fang Lun (Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber), the exhaustions of the five Zang-viscera are known as the exhaustion of the heart and the mind is hurt, it is known as xīn láo; the exhaustion of the liver and the blood is hurt, it is known as gān láo; the exhaustion of the spleen and the digestion is hurt, it is known as pí láo; the exhaustion of the lung and the Qi is hurt, it is known as fèi láo; the exhaustion of the kidney and the essence is hurt, it is known as shèn láo.
In general, these sybndromes of consumption are know as wǔ láo (five exhaustions).
Six exhaustions.
The syndromes of six exhaustions, known as tendon exhaustion (jīn jí), bone exhaustion (gǔ jí), blood exhaustion (xuě jí), muscle exhaustion (ròu jí), essence exhaustion (jīng jí), Qi exhaustion (qì jí). These six exhaustion syndromes are introduced:
Six exhaustions: the six exhaustion syndromes are exhaustion of tendon, bone, blood, muscle, essence, and Qi, in general, they are known as liù jí (six exhaustion syndromes).
The exhaustion of the tendon often has spasms (have a cramp, or a twisted muscle), nails of ten fingers are all painful, it is also known as jīn jí (tendon exhaustion);
The exhaustion of bone, dentalgia (toothache), chiropodalgia (cheiropodalgia, pain in hands and feet), cannot stand up for a long period, it is also known as gǔ jí (bone exhaustion);
The exhaustion of blood, face loses colour (complexion is pale), hairs fall off to ground, it is also known as xuě jí (blood exhaustion);
The exhaustion of muscle, the body is itching like rats walking on the body, the upper part of the body is dry and black, it is also known as ròu jí (muscle exhaustion);
The exhaustion of essence, short of breath and lacking strength, body is thin and not fat, lower fever, thin and weak, eyes lacking lights, cannot stand for a long period, body is itchy, a boil grows from scratching, it is also known as jīng jí (essence exhaustion);
The exhaustion of Qi, painful chest and hypochondrium, always break out in a rage, deficiency of Qi and could not speak, it is also known as qì jí (Qi exhaustion).
Seven kinds of impairments.
The syndromes of seven impairments, known as qī shāng (seven impairments). These seven impairments syndromes are introduced:
Seven kinds of impairments: it is also known as qī shāng (seven impairments), the seven kinds of impairments syndrome are, coldness of the genitals (cold sensation of the genitalia, Yīn hán), impotence (Yīn wěi), contraction of genital organ (lǐ jí), spermatorrhea (nocturnal emission, yí jīng or jīng lòu), oligospermia (oligospermatism, or jīng shǎo), dilute spermatic fluid (seminal fluid is clear, or jīng qīng), frequent urination (frequent urination, or xiǎo biàn shù), etc.
Jiān Jué.
The syndrome Jiān Jué, is a kind of consumption syndrome, it is introduced:
Jiān Jué: the syndrome jiān jué is a kind of Yang deficiency disease, burning leads to the circulation of Qi in the wrong direction, thus the name is jiān jué (burning and reverse circulation of Qi). The floating of Qi is forced by exogenous heat, it flows in the reverse direction, and even leads to dizziness, faintness, dim eyesight, hard to hear.
Xiè Yì.
The syndrome Xiè Yì, is a kind of consumption syndrome, it is introduced:
Xiè Yì: the syndrome xiè yì is a deficiency syndrome of liver and kidney, according to the record of Nei Jing (the Inner Canon), "cold but not cold, fever but not heat, weak but not weak, strong but not very strong, it is hard to name it, so it is known as xiè yì". In general, it is a disease from deficiency of liver and kidney.
èr yáng syndrome.
The èr yáng syndrome, is a kind of consumption syndrome, it is introduced:
èr yáng syndrome: the èr yáng syndrome is a syndrome of blood deficiency and oligospermia (lacking of semen), it is also known as Two Yang syndrome.
According to the record of Nei Jing (the Inner Canon), "èr yáng disease occurs..., man has problems in erection, woman has problems in menses." In general, the Two Yang syndrome (èr yáng syndrome) is mainly caused by a lack of semen and insufficiency of blood.
