The ancient classical works Nei Jing (the Inner Canon) recorded, "various vomiting and vomiting acid liquid, belongs to fire."
Internal reasons: there is dampness and heat in the upper part of the stomach, diet and drink enter the stomach, stagnant and obstacle by dampness heat, food cannot be transformed. As a result, clear Qi failing to ascend, turbid Qi failing to descend, clear Qi and turbid Qi combating with each other, circulation of Qi in the wrong direction, thus one wants to vomit, but it enters again, this is the acid swallowing.
External symptoms: one has dampness and heat since past, and affected by pathogenic wind and cold, or take raw or cold food, and internal heat turns stagnant further. The sourness attach to the heart, wants to vomit but cannot vomit, uncomfortable in the chest. Or vomit out sour liquid, and make the upper and lower teeth sour and pain, cannot occlude, it is the syndrome of acid swallowing.
Differences between acid vomiting and acid swallowing: the syndrome acid vomiting, vomit out sour liquid, the ascending of Qi is stagnant, dampness generates heat, thus transform by fire, and there is sour taste. The syndrome of acid swallowing, stagnation and stasis for long periods, cannot come out itself, stays between the lungs and stomach, cannot flow upward, and cannot swallow down.
The cold and heat syndromes of acid swallowing: retention stagnant in the middle, generates heat after long days, and sourness is generated, it is the heat syndrome of acid swallowing; exogenous cold pathogen affect the stomach, and forms sourness in a while, there is no stagnant heat originally, transformed from coldness, it is the cold syndrome of acid swallowing.
Progression of disease: Chronic syndrome of acid swallowing develops to choking, acid swallowing is a minor disease, but if it is not relieved in long days, it develops to choking, regurgitation, etc.
The syndrome hydroptysis is a disease relevant to acid swallowing (tūn suān), it is also introduced.

One has poor appetite (take fewer food) and vomit out clear liquid, deficiency of fire;
One vomit clear liquid from mouth after taking a diet, it is due to dyspepsia (indigestion);
There is rumbling sound between the chest and diaphragm, vomit out clear liquid, it is due to phlegm and retained fluid;
One often has pain in heart and abdomen, vomit out clear liquid, there are parasites.
