Crinis Carbonisatus(Carbonized Hair).
Pin Yin Name: Xuè Yú Tàn,Xuè Yú.
English Name: Carbonized Hair.
Latin Name: Crinis Carbonisatus.
Property and flavor: neutral, bitter, puckery.
Brief introduction: The herb Crinis Carbonisatus is used to arrest bleeding and remove blood stasis for treating various kinds of hemorrhage. It is commonly known as Crinis Carbonisatus, Carbonized Hair, Xuè Yú Tàn.
Botanical source: Common herbal classics and other famous herbal classics defined the herb Crinis Carbonisatus(Carbonized Hair) as the Carbonized residue of human hair.
Characters of herbs: The herb is irregular block shape, dark bright, with many fine holes. It is light and crisp. It is scorched and bitter with fire.
Pharmacological actions: The herb Crinis Carbonisatus has been proved to have various effects: 1.bacteriostasic activity: experiment proved that the herb Carbonized Hair had an inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus typhi, Bacterium paratyphosum A and Shigella flexneri, etc. 2. Coagulation effect: the herb Carbonized Hair has the effect of shortening bleeding time and constricting mucous membrane capillaries.
Medicinal efficacy: Hemostasis(stanch bleeding), dissipate blood stasis, diuretic and promoting granulation(promote tissue regeneration). Internally:4.5~9 grams(CP), Internally:grinded into fine powder,1.5~3 qian(about 4.5~9 grams), or prepare to pill. Externally:grinded into powder, mix or apply stick(DCTM), Internally:water decoction,5~10 grams;grinded into powder,1.5~3 grams each time. Externally:proper amount, grinded into powder and mix with oil, or prepare to paste and smear apply(CHMM).
