Herba Centipedae(Small Centipeda Herb).

 Small Centipeda Herb Brief Introduction: The herb Herba Centipedae is the dried entire plant of Centipeda minima(L.) A.Braum et Aschers(family Compositae), used (1).to disperse cold and relieve nasal congestion for the treatment of colds with an acute rhinitis, and (2).to arrest cough. The herb is commonly known as Small Centipeda Herb, Herba Centipedae, or é Bù Shí Cǎo.

 ✵The herb Herba Centipedae(Small Centipeda Herb) is the dried entire plant of Centipeda minima(L.) A.Braum et Aschers, it is a plant of the Centipeda Lour. genus, the Compositae family of the Campanulales order.

 Centipeda minima L. (1).Centipeda minima(L.)A.Braum et Aschers.: The plant is also known as Small Centipeda. Small annual herbs of coriander, 5~20 cm tall. Stem is slender, much-branched, base prostrate, easily rooted after touching the ground, glabrous or slightly hirsute. Leaves are alternate; Sessile; Leaf blade sphenoid oblanceolate, 7~20 mm long, 3~5 mm wide, apex obtuse, margin irregularly sparsely toothed, glabrous, or slightly hairy below. Inflorescence is small, oblate, ca. 3 mm in diameter, solitary in leaf axils, no or nearly no total pedicels; Involucre hemispherical; Involucral bracts are 2 layers, elliptic-lanceolate, green, margin membranous, outer layer larger than inner layer; Receptacle flat, no receptacle; Flowers miscellaneous, light yellow or yellowish-green, all tube shape; Peripheral female flowers multilayered, corolla fine, with inconspicuous lobes; Central bisexual flowers, corolla distinctly 4-lobed. Achene elliptic, ca. 1 mm long, 4-ribbed, margin hairy; No hair. Its flowering period is from September to November.

 Centipeda minima L. Ecological environment: the plant grows on the awn field, the ridge of the field, and wet grass. Resources distribution: the plant distributes in the north, central, south, southwest of China.

 Trait identification: Fibrous root is slender, flaxen; Stem fine, much-branched, crisp, easily broken, cross-section is yellow-white. Leaves are small, subsessile; Leaf blade is much wrinkled or broken, whole herb flattening spoon shape, surface is gray-green or tan, margin with 3~5 teeth. Heads are yellow or russet. Smells light afternoon, the long smell of stimulation, taste bitter; Slight sheen. Those herbs with the lubricious gray-green, strong stimulative smell is better.
