Brief introduction: The herb Cacumen Tamaricis is the dried young green twig of Tamarix chinensis Lour.(family Tamaricaceae), used for measles to promote eruption, and also for rheumatism to relieve arthralgia. The herb is commonly known as Cacumen Tamaricis, Chinese Tamarisk Twig, Xī Hé Liǔ.
Botanical source: The herb Cacumen Tamaricis(Chinese Tamarisk Twig) is the dried young green twig and leaves of Tamarix chinensis Lour., it is a plant of the Tamarix L. genus, the Tamaricaceae family of the Parietales order. It is also known as Chinese Tamarisk Twig.

(1).Tamarix chinensis Lour.: Botanical description: It is also known as Tamarisk willow, Xī Hé Liǔ(literally it means West River Willow). Deciduous shrubs or small trees. Branches are dense, green or reddish, slender, often pendulous. Leaves are alternate, minute, scaly, ovate-triangular, apex acuminate, base sheathed clasped, sessile. Racemes are evacuated panicles; Flowers are small, white to pink, bracts triangular; 5 sepals, 5 petals, filaments are longer than corolla, disk 10 or 5 lobed; Ovary superior, 1-locule, 3 styles. Capsule is small. Seed apex tufted. Its flowering period is from April to September, fruiting period is from August to October.
Growth characteristics: The tree grows in hilly, humid, sandy, and alkaline lands and riverbank alluvial lands. The herb is mainly produced in Hebei and Henan province, and most parts of China.
Characters of herbs: The stem branches of this herb are thin cylindrical, the diameter is 0.5~1.5 mm. The surface is grayish-green, with many alternate scaly lobules. It is brittle and easily broken. The surface of the slightly coarser branches are reddish-brown, the leaf blade often exfoliates and remains protuberant leaf base, the fracture surface is yellow-white, central medullary. Slight smell and the taste is light.
Medicinal efficacy: Dispel wind, detoxification, promoting eruption, indicated for measles without adequate eruption, rheumatism, and numbness pain.
