 Yellow Genkwa Leaf and Flower Brief Introduction: The herb Folium et Flos Wikstroemiae Chamaedephnis is the leaf and flower-bud of Wikstroemia chamaedphne Meisn.(family Thymeleaceae), it is used in a similar way to Flos Genkwa, and also for treating acute and chronic hepatitis, schizophrenia, and epilepsy. The herb is commonly known as Folium et Flos Wikstroemiae Chamaedephnis, Chamaedaphne Leaf and Flower, Yellow Genkwa Leaf and Flower, Huáng Yuán Huā.

 ✵Official herbal classics and other famous herbal classics defined the herb Folium et Flos Wikstroemiae Chamaedephnis(Chamaedaphne Leaf and Flower, Yellow Genkwa Leaf and Flower) as the flower-bud of the species (1). Wikstroemia chamaedphne Meisn. It is a plant of the Daphne Linn. Genus, the Thymelaeaceae family of the Myrtales order. This commonly used species is introduced as:

 Wikstroemia chamaedphne Meisn. (1).Wikstroemia chamaedphne Meisn.:  It is commonly known as Hé Shuò Ráo Huā. A deciduous small shrub, 30~120 cm tall, branching many and slender, glabrous, old branches brownish yellow, young branches green, easily broken, section visible white spongy fibers. Leaves opposite or subopposite, petiole short. Leaf-blade lanceolate, smooth glabrous, green above, slightly shriveled after drying, grayish-green below, smooth, 2.5~5.5 cm long, 0.2~1 cm wide, entire, apex acute, base cuneate or acuminate, margin slightly rolled down, white spongy fibers at veins visible at fracture. Inflorescences terminal umbel, a constant collection of panicles. Perianth tubular, yellow, apex 4-lobed, 8 stamens, twirling into perianth tube; Ovary inferior, elliptic, stigma short, rounded. Drupe is ovate. Its flowering period is from June to August, fruiting from September. Light smell, taste pungent, astringent, stimulating.

 Wikstroemia chamaedphne Meisn. Ecological environment: It grows on the hillside, roadside, ditch edge and grass. The plant is distributed in north China, Gansu, Henan, Shaanxi, Sichuan, and other areas of China.

 Trait identification: Flowers are rod-shaped or slender long tubular, mostly scattered in clusters, bisexual, not with petals, calyx cylindric and thin, rarely curved, 3~8 mm long, surface grayish-green or yellowish, densely pubescent, apex lobes 1/6-1/4 of full length, abaxially also pubescent. Anatomical observation showed that calyx apex lobes were also 4, ovoid, 8 stamens, arranged in 2 rows, inserted in calyx tube, without filaments. The smell is weak, sweet-spicy taste. The herb which is fresh, neat and clean color is better.
