Ramulus Mori(Mulberry Twig).

Mulberry Twig Pin Yin Name: Sānɡ Zhī.
 English Name: Mulberry Twig.
 Latin Name: Ramulus Mori.
 Property and flavor: neutral, bitter.

 Brief introduction: The herb Ramulus Mori is the dried young twig of Morus alba L.(family Moraceae), used as an antirheumatic for treating arthralgia and shoulder pain.

 Botanical source: The herb Ramulus Mori(Mulberry Twig) is the dried young twig of Morus alba L., it is a plant of the Morus genus, the Moraceae(mulberry family or fig family) family of the Rosales order. The herb is commonly known as Ramulus Mori, Mulberry Twig, Sānɡ Zhī.

 Morus alba L.02 Morus alba L.:
 Botanical description: The Morus alba L., is a plant of the Moraceae family and Morus genus, it is commonly known as "Mulberry Tree" or "White Mulberry", or "Sang Shu", deciduous shrubs or small trees, 3~15 meters high. The bark is brownish-brown, branches gray or gray-yellow, sparsely sparse, shallowly longitudinally divided, slightly pilose when tender.

 Leaves alternate, ovate to broadly ovate, 6~5 cm long and 4~12 cm wide. Tip or blunt, base round or near heart-shaped, coarse teeth on the edge, above the hairless, shiny, green below, veins with sparse hairs, hairy veins; petiole length 1~2.5 cm. Dioecious, bone inflorescence axillary; male inflorescence caducous; female inflorescence length 1~2 cm, style is not obvious or no, 2 stigmas.

 Morus alba L.03 The leaves are oval, broadly ovate, and heart-shaped. They are about 15 cm long, about 10 cm wide, and about 4 cm in length. The base of the leaf blade is heart-shaped, slightly apical at the apex, serrated at its edge, and densely covered with white pilose leaves. Old thick yellow-green leaves. The young leaves are thin and dark green. Crisp and brittle, grip the hands. It is light and slightly bitter. Medicinal use is generally considered to be good after the frost. The poly fruit (mulberry) is dark purple, red or milky when cooked. Its flowering period is from April to May and fruiting from June to July.

 Growth characteristics: The mulberry tree prefers a warm and humid climate, slightly shade tolerance. It sprouts when the temperature is above 12 ℃, the suitable temperature for growth is 25~30 ℃, its growth is inhibited when the temperature is above 40 ℃, and the growth stops when the temperature is below 12 ℃. Drought resistance, waterlogging resistance, barren tolerance. Strong adaptability to the soil.

 Characters of herbs: shoots are long cylindrical, rarely branched, varying in length, 0.5~1.5 cm in diameter. The surface is grayish-yellow or tawny, with many tawny punctate lenticels and fine longitudinal lines, and pale slightly semi-circular leaf marks and yellow-brown axillary buds. Tough, not easily broken; Fiber in section. Section thickness is 0.2~0.5 cm, skin relatively thin, wood part yellow-white, ray radial, pulp white or yellow-white. Slight smell, mild taste. With qualitative tender, cross-section yellow-white is better.

 Pharmacological actions: The herb has remarkable anti-inflammatory and anti-hypertensive effects. The leached solution has a remarkable effect on nourishing the hair of rabbits and sheep. Its component morin has diuretic, spasmolysis, anti-pathogen effects, and shows strong anticancer activity.

 Medicinal efficacy: Dispel wind and dampness, free meridian and channels, benefit joint, prompt water and Qi circulation. It is indicated for numbness and pain of the shoulder, arm, joint, wind-cold and arthritis with fixed pain caused by dampness, limb muscular constricture, apoplexia(paralytic stroke) and hemiplegia, beriberi and edema, edema, pruritus of body and muscle.
