Semen Abutili(Chingma Abutilon Seed).

 Semen Abutili Brief Introduction: The herb Semen Abutili is the dried ripe seed of Abutilon theophrastii Medic.(family Malvaceae), used to remove damp-heat and counteract toxins for the treatment of dysentery, heat stranguria, boils, and sores. The herb is commonly known as Semen Abutili, Chingma Abutilon Seed, Qǐnɡ Má Zi.

 ✵Official herbal classics and other famous herbal classics defined the herb Semen Abutili(Chingma Abutilon Seed) as the dried ripe seed of the species (1). Abutilon theophrastii Medic. It is a plant of the Abutilon Miller genus, the Malvaceae family of the Malvales order. This commonly used species is introduced as:

 Abutilon theophrastii Medic. (1).Abutilon theophrastii Medic.:  It is commonly known as Qǐng Má. Subshrubby herbs annual, to 1~2 meters tall, stems and branches pilose. Leaves alternate, cordate, 5~10 cm long, apex long acuminate, base cordate, margin serrate, both surfaces densely stellate pilose; Petiole 3~12 cm long, stellate pilose; Stipules fall early.

 Abutilon theophrastii Medic. Flowers solitary in leaf axils, pedicels 1~13 cm long, pilose, nearly apical with nodes; Calyx cup-shaped, densely tomentose, 5 lobes, ovate, ca. 6 mm long; Flowers yellow, petals obovate, ca. 1 cm long; Stamen column smooth and glabrous, 15~20 carpels, 1~1.5 cm long, apex truncated, with extended, 2 hairy long, arranged in rotund, densely hirsute.

 Capsule hemispherical, ca.2 cm in diameter, ca. 1.2 cm in length, 15~20 pans, coarsely hairy, apex with long awn 2; Seed reniform, brown, stellate pilose. Flowering period: July to August.

 Abutilon theophrastii Medic. Ecological environment: the plant grows in roadsides, wasteland fields. It distributes in China, Europe, North America, and south-east Asia. In China, it mainly distributes in the lower reaches area of the Yangtze River, Zhujiang river area, northwest area, southwest area, Taiwan.

 Trait identification:Seed triangular-oblate, one end pointed, 3.4~4 mm long, about 3 mm wide. Surface dark brown, scattered with sparse short hair, marginal depression with a light brown navel. Seed coat hard, peeling after visible cylindrical radicle, cotyledons folded W shape, endosperm and cotyledons crisscross. Slight smell, mild taste. It is better to have full seeds and no impurity.
