Rhizoma Alismatic(Water-plantain Rhizome).

 Rhizoma Alismatic Brief Introduction: The herb Rhizoma Alismatic is the dried tuber of Alisma orientalis(Sam.) Juzep.(family Alismaceae), used (1).to promote urine excretion for oliguria and edema, (2).to filter out damp in cases of diarrhea and leukorrhea, and (3).to purge heat in cases of bladder damp-heat. The herb is commonly known as Rhizoma Alismatic, Water-plantain Rhizome, Zé Xiè.

 Alisma orientale Sam Juz 01 ✵Common famous herbal classics and official herbal classics defined the herb Rhizoma Alismatic(Water-plantain Rhizome) as the dried tuber of the species (1).Alisma orientalis(Sam.) Juzep., it is a plant of the Alisma Genus, the Alismataceae(water-plantains) family, the Alismatales order. This commonly used species is introduced as:

 Alisma orientale Sam Juz 02 (1).Alisma orientale (Sam.) Juz.: The Alisma orientale (Sam.) Juz. is a plant of the Alismataceae(water-plantains) family and Alisma genus, it is commonly known as "Alisma orientale", "Asian water plantain", or "Ze Xie", perennial marsh plants, high 50~100 cm. Underground tubers, spherical, up to 4.5 cm in diameter, brown skin, most of the fibrous roots. Leaves rooted; petiole up to 50 cm, the base extended into the sheath-like, width 5~20 mm; leaf blade broadly oval to ovate, 5~18 cm long, 2~10 cm wide, apex acute or short, broad-wedge-shaped base, round shaped or slightly heart-shaped, entire, both sides smooth; 5~7 veins. Stems from the leaves of the plexus, long 10~100 cm, inflorescences usually 3~5 branches, branching under the lanceolate or linear bracts, branches often alternate branches, composed of conical complex umbrella Inflorescences, small pedicels ranging in length; bracteoles lanceolate to linear, acute; 3 sepals, broadly ovate, green or purplish, 2~3 mm long, persistent; petals obovate, membranous, White, shedding; 6 stamens; pistils numerous, free; ovary obovate, lateral flattened, style lateral. Achene most, flat, obovate, 1.5~2 mm long, 1 mm wide, the back of two shallow ditches, brown, style persistent. Its flowering period is from June to August, fruiting from July to September.

 Alisma orientale Sam Juz 02 Ecological environment: It grows on the edge of marsh or cultivated. Resources distribution: The plant is distributed in the north, east, southwest and northwest, and other areas of China.

 Cultivation biological characteristics: It prefers a warm and humid climate, seedlings like shade, adults like sunshine, fear of cold, in the area with altitude below 800 meters, generally it can be cultivated. It is suitable for the cultivation of paddy fields with sufficient sunshine, rich humus and slightly sticky soil, and reliable water source. Before rice or medium rice, cold-soaking fields with too sandy texture or low soil temperature are not suitable for cultivation.

 Alisma orientale Sam Juz 02 Trait identification: Tubers globose, elliptic or ovoid, 2~7 cm long, 2~6 cm in diameter. The surface is yellowish-white or light yellow-brown, have irregular transverse ring shallow groove grain and most fine protuberant fibrous root mark, bottom some have tumor shape bud mark. Solid, cross-section yellow-white, pink, most of the pores. Slight smell, slightly bitter taste. The herb which size is big, yellow-white, smooth, qualitative and substantial, powder content sufficient is better.
