Fructus Oryzae Germinatus(Rice-grain Sprout).

 Fructus Oryzae Germinatus Brief Introduction: The herb Fructus Oryzae Germinatus is the dried and germinated grains of rice, Oryza sativa L.(family Graminae), used to improve digestion for the treatment of poor appetite and dyspepsia. The herb is commonly known as Fructus Oryzae Germinatus, Rice-grain sprout, Dào Yá.

It is a plant of the Oryza L. Genus, the Gramineae family of the Poales order. This commonly used species is introduced as:

 Oryza sativa L. (1).Oryza sativa L.: It is commonly known as Dào, or Shuǐ Dào. Annual aquatic herbs. Culms erect, 0.5~1.5 meters tall, varying with species. Leaf-sheath flabby, glabrous; Leaf tongue lanceolate, 10~25 cm long, subbasal on both sides elongated into leaf sheath margin, with 2 falciform clasped ear; Leaf blade linear-lanceolate, about 40 cm long, ca. 1 cm wide, glabrous, scabrous.

 Panicles large sparsely spreading, ca. 30 cm long, branched, scabrous, recurved at maturity; Spikelets containing 1 mature flower, very compressed on both sides, oblong-ovate to elliptic, ca. 10 mm long, 2~4 mm wide; Glume tiny, leaving only half-moon traces at apex of spikelet stalk, degenerate lemma 2, cone-spined, 2~4 mm long; Both sides pregnant flower lemma qualitative thick, with 5 veins, midrib into ridge, the surface has a grid shape small mammatous protuberance, thick paper, throughout the fine hair end hair denser, have awn or no awn; Palea and lemma homogenous, 3-veined, apex apiculate without beak; 6 stamens, anthers 2~3 mm long.

 Oryza sativa L. Caryopsis ca.5 mm long, ca. 2 mm wide, ca. 1~1.5 mm thick; Embryo smaller than caryopsis, about 1/4 length.

 Ecological environment: Rice is fond of high temperature, wet, short sunshine, soil requirements are not strict, rice soil is the best. It is an important grain widely cultivated in tropical Asia. The south of China is the main rice-producing area. Rice is one of the important food crops of human beings. Half the world's population eats rice, mainly in Asia, Southern Europe, and tropical America and parts of Africa. Rice is the world's third-largest food crop, behind corn and wheat, but can sustain a larger population, so the United Nations designated 2004 as the International Year of Rice.

 Oryza sativa L. Trait identification: Use ripe caryopsis as medicine. Sweet and warm. It aids digestion and harmonizes the center, benefit spleen, and appetizer. This herb is oblong oval, slightly pointed at both ends, 7~9 mm long, about 3 mm in diameter. Lemma yellow, with white fine fuzz, with 5 veins. At one end there are 2 symmetrical white strip pulp pieces, 2~3 mm long, 1~3 curved fibrous roots extending from the inside of one pulp piece, 0.5~1.2 cm long. Hard, cross-section white, pink. No smell, light taste.
