 Black Nightshade Herb Brief Introduction: The herb Herba Solani Nigri is the dried aerial part of Solanum nigrum L.(family Solanaceae), used for the treatment of cancer of the stomach and esophagus. The herb is commonly known as Herba Solani Nigri, Black Nightshade Herb, Lónɡ Kuí.

 Solanum nigrum L. (1).Solanum nigrum L.: Annual herbs, ca. 25~100 cm tall. Stem erect, angular or inconspicuous, subglabrous or thinly covered with fine hairs. Leaves alternate; Petiole 1~2 cm long; Leaf blade ovate, apex shortly acute, base cuneate or broadly cuneate and descending to the petiole, usually 2.5~10 cm long, 1.5~5.5 cm wide, entire or irregularly undulate coarsely serrate, smooth or sparsely pubescent on both surfaces. A scorpion-likeke cyme, axillary, with 3~6~10 flowers; Pedicels long, 5-lobed, lobes ovoid, ca. 2 mm long, 5 stamens, corolla tube, filaments separated, anthers yellow, apical orifice inward; 1 pistil, globose, ovary 2, style lower half densely white pilose, stigma rounded. Berry globose, shiny, ca. 8 mm in diameter, black when ripe; Seeds mostly oblate. The flowering and fruiting period is from September to October.

 Trait identification:Stem cylindrical, much-branched, 30~70 cm long, 2~10 mm in diameter, yellow-green surface, with longitudinal wrinkles. Hard and brittle, cross-section yellow-white, hollow. Creased or broken, whole ovate or elliptic, 2~12 cm long, 2~6 cm wide, apex acute or obtuse, entire or irregularly undulate serrate, dark green, both surfaces smooth or sparsely pubescent; Petiole length 0.3~2.2 cm. Flowers, fruits rare, cymes scorpion, axillary exophytic, 4~6 flowers, calyx brown, corolla brownish. Berry globose, black or green, wrinkled. Seeds numerous, brown. Slight flavor. The stem leaves color green, with fruit for the best.
