Fructus Rosae Laevigatae(Cherokee Rose Fruit).

 Fructus Rosae Laevigatae Brief Introduction: The Herb Fructus Rosae Laevigatae is the dried ripe fruit of Cherokee Rose, Rosa laevigata Mickx.(family Rosaceae), used as an astringent for the treatment of seminal emission, enuresis, frequent micturition, and chronic diarrhea. The herb is commonly known as Fructus Rosae Laevigatae, Cherokee Rose Fruit, Jīn Yīnɡ Zǐ.

 ✵Common official herbal classics and other famous herbal classics defined the herb Fructus Rosae Laevigatae(Cherokee Rose Fruit) as the dried ripe fruit of the plant species Rosa laevigata Michx. It is a plant species of the Rose L. genus, the Rosaceae family of the Rosales order. This commonly used species is introduced as:

 Cherokee Rose Fruit Rosa laevigata Michx.: It is commonly known as Cherokee Rose, Jīn Yīnɡ Zǐ. Climbing evergreen shrub, height up to 5 m; branchlets stout, recurved prickles scattered flat, hairless, glandular hairs when young, gradually reduce shedding when old. Leaflets leathery, usually three, dilute five, even petiole 5-10 cm long;small leaves elliptic-ovate, obovate or lanceolate-ovate,2~6 cm long,1.2~3.5 cm wide, apex acute or rounded blunt, thin caudate-acuminate, sharp jagged edges, bright green above, hairless, yellow-green below, along the ribs with glandular hairs when young, old-time gradually glabrescent; petiole and rachis small prickles and glandular Mao;stipules free or base and petiole connate, lanceolate, margin finely toothed, sharp teeth glands, early fall.

 Cherokee Rose Fruit Flowers solitary in leaf axils, 5~7 cm in diameter; peduncle 1.8~2.5 cm long, 3 cm were occasional, pedicels and calyx densely glandular hairs, with fruit, grew into acupuncture; sepals ovate-lanceolate, apex was leafy edge pinnately lobed or entire, often bristles and glandular hairs, the inner surface densely pubescent, slightly shorter than petals; petals white, broadly obovate, apex emarginate; stamens numerous; carpels majority, style-free, hairy, much shorter than the stamens.

 Cherokee Rose Fruit Pear-shaped fruit, obovate, thin nearly spherical, purple, brown, stabbed outside densely hairy,3 cm long stems, sepals persistent. Its flowering period is from April to June, fruiting from July to November.

 Ecological environment: Prefer and grow in the sunny mountain, field side, riverbank bushes, at area of 200~1,600 meters above sea level. Regional Distribution to Central, East, South, Southwest of China, grow at the Yangtze river area and Zhujiang river area, Taiwan, and other provinces.

 Trait identification:This herb is the false fruit which the flower receptacle develops, assumes the obovate, long 2~3. 5 cm, 1~2 cm in diameter. The surface is yellowish red to brownish red, slightly lustrous, with most spiny bristles shedding after the residual form of small brown projections; Calyx persistent without end disc-shaped, slightly raised in the center, with yellow stylopodium; Base tapering, with residual stalk. Hard, longitudinally cut calyx tube wall 1~2 mm thick, inner wall dense tan lustrous tomentose, achene dozens, flat spindle shape, about 7 mm long, yellowish-brown, woody, covered with pale yellow tomentose. Light smell, taste sweet, slightly astringent. The herb which is large, red and yellow, shiny, the burr cleaned for the better.
