Bulbus Fritillariae Thunbergii(Thunbery Fritillary Bulb).

 Thunbery Fritillary Bulb Brief Introduction: The herb Bulbus Fritillariae Thunbergii is the dried bulb of Fritillaria thunbergii Miq.(family Liliaceae), used (1).to clear heat and resolve phlegm in cases of cough with thick expectoration, and (2).to reduce nodulation in cases of mastitis and scrofula. The herb is commonly known as Bulbus Fritillariae Thunbergii, Thunbery Fritillary Bulb, Zhè Bèi Mǔ.

 ✵The herb Bulbus Fritillariae Thunbergii(Thunbery Fritillary Bulb) is the dried bulb of Fritillaria thunbergii Miq., it is a plant of the Fritillaria L. genus, the Liliaceae family of the Liliflorae order. It is also known as Bulb of Thunberg Fritillary or Zhè Bèi Mǔ.

 Fritillaria thunbergii Miq. (1).Fritillaria thunbergii Miq.: It is also known as Zhè Bèi Mǔ, a perennial herb, 50~80 cm high. Bulb oblate, 1.5~4 cm in diameter, with 2 white, thick scaly leaves joined. Leaves opposite or scattered at the bottom of the stem, gradually upward and often both scattered, opposite and whorled; Leaf blade sub2-lanceolate, 7~11 cm long, 1~2.5 cm wide, apex not curly or slightly curved. 1~6 Flowers, pale yellow, sometimes slightly purplish, apical flowers with 3~4 leaflike bracts, others with 2~4 cm, 1~1.5 cm wide, inner and outer wheel similar, inner mask purple grid markings, base with nectaries above; 6 stamens, about 2/5 of tepals long; Anthers subbasal, filaments without papillae; Stigma segment length is about 1.5~2 mm. Capsule ovoid, 6 ribs, 2~2.2 cm long, 2.5 cm wide, with 6~8 mm wings on the ribs. It is flowering in March to April, fruiting in May.

 Ecological environment: the plant grows on lower elevations in shade of hills or under bamboo forests. Resource distribution: the plant is mainly distributed in the lower reaches area of the Yangtze River, and other areas of China.

 Fritillaria thunbergii Miq. Trait identification: the pearl bulb is a complete bulb, oblate spherical, 1~2.5 cm in diameter. White surface, the outer layer of two scaly leaves thickened, opposite, with 2~3 small scaly leaves and residual stem. Firm and brittle, easily broken, the cross-section is white, rich in powder. Slight breath, bitter taste. Another type, scallop Bulb is a single hypertrophic scaly leaf, shaped like an ingot or a rhomboid, 2~4 cm long, 1~2.5 cm high and 0.6~1.5 cm thick. The outer surface is white to yellowish white with light brown markings, and the inner surface is white to yellowish-white. With scale leaf hypertrophic, quality is firm, rich starch, cutting surface color white is the better grade.
